A Conjunction as Seen by Children in Kenya
9 December 2008

Young children in Kenya had a celestial treat on Monday December 1st 2008. The young children were amazed that the two "stars" were actually planets, Venus and Jupiter. Some said the sight reminded them of a smiling face with two eyes while others insisted that it looked like a smile with two dimples. Many just said, "Wow."

Asking them which of the three celestial bodies is biggest, some of the really young children shouted "the moon", while the older ones said Jupiter. Explaining to them why the big planet appears smaller and dimmer while our moon appears much bigger made the young ones ask more questions.

For the kids, it was a short treat but it was worth it. This experience was made possible by Pulse Health Care who donated the telescope.
