Day Camp for Kids at the IAU General Assembly
10 April 2012

The International Astronomical Union (IAU) and Universe Awareness, in collaboration with the science communication company SterrenLab, is organising a Day Camp for children during the IAU General Assembly (GA), which will be held 20-31 August 2012 in Beijing, China. The Day Camp is open to  the children of astronomers attending the IAU GA and those from the local community (Chinese and expats).

The idea behind the Day Camp is to combine professional childcare support for parents who would like to bring their family to the conference with a rich programme of educational astronomy activities for their children. The organisers will also invite local children, to attend the Day Camp. The benefit of this approach is twofold: to give something back to the local community in the GA’s host city, and to offer the visiting children a unique opportunity to learn about Chinese culture and customs as they play and learn together.

The programme will include hands-on science activities, games and 2-3 excursions per week to educational venues, such as a local planetarium, an observatory and a science centre. The children will also present their activities on the final day of the Day Camp.

The Day Camp is open to children aged 5-11 years old and costs 200 euros per week for each child, which includes lunch and a snack. Early registration is advised, as places are limited to 25 children per week. For full details and to register, please click here or email info@unawe.org
