Expedition Khagol Rath: GalileoMobile Visits Rural India!
17 March 2014

GalileoMobile is an initiative that shares UNAWE’s vision to inspire every child with our wonderful cosmos. The GalileoMobile team travels to the most remote places to bring astronomy to schools and communities. In this way children that usually don’t get to learn about modern space sciences, get a chance to be inspired by the wonders of the Universe.

After two successful trips to South America, GalileoMobile has recently visited the rural area between the Indian cities Bangalore and Mysore during expedition Khagol Rath (translation: Astro Chariot)! During two weeks the team visited a new school every day, leading to an impressive number of 1 600 children reached. The children enthusiastically took part in activities and learned about constellations, planets, the Sun, the Moon and other celestial wonders. In the mornings, the school’s teachers participated in an astronomy workshop, so they’d get the tools to bring the Universe in the classroom for years to come. The teacher workshops provide a long-lasting impact for these activities.

The GalileoMobile team produced a beautiful photo-book of their fascinating trip to amazing India. Have a look and feel the excitement of our new little astronomer friends!
