Open Education Week 2015: 9 Selected Online Events
11 March 2015

Open Education Week’s goal is to raise awareness about free and open educational opportunities that exist for everyone, everywhere, right now. The week highlights how open education can help people meet their goals in education, whether that’s to develop skills and knowledge for work, supporting formal studies, learning something new for personal interest, or looking for additional teaching resources.

Open education encompasses resources, tools and practices that employ a framework of open sharing to improve educational access and effectiveness worldwide. astroEDU adopts the open education approach to harness today’s collaborative spirit to develop educational content to meet learner’s needs.

9 selected online events to get involved:

  • #AllAboutOpen 24-hour Twitter event
Open College will host a 24-hour Twitter event featuring influential contributors to the open movement, who will lead in compelling discussions on many relevant topics. Each Guest Tweeter will be provided 30 mins to facilitate a virtual conversation by tweeting short videos, articles, questions, and opinion on their topic of choice related to the open movement.
  • STEM Education in Africa
The webinar will discuss how to develop quality courses in STEM education and enhance access in Africa
  • The K-12 OER Collaborative

  • Teachers Teaching Teachers

  • Integration of OER with regular/formal academic programmes
The actual integration of OER in regular academic programmes is required to extend the learning facilities available everywhere. Informal learning is an around-the-clock opportunity for improvement and progress. In this context, OER comes as a natural resource to integrate content and resources worldwide, into the personal learning path.
  • Disruptive Media Learning Expo
A two-day celebration of disruptive teaching and learning, which aims to create thought-provoking discussions. Day one focuses on innovative ways of teaching and learning at higher education; showcasing projects of the DMLL, theories and adaptive technologies. Day two we will be discussing Open Education and implications for teaching and learning practice.
  • OER Myths busted
Webinar will de-mystify the use of open educational resources and address copyright issues and the use of creative commons for educational material.
  • Flipping it: Teaching and Learning in an Inverted Classroom
Will discuss tools for facilitating a flipped classroom (including screencasts, online assessments, and free electronic texts) as well as student response to the flipped format.
  • Education Innovations with Creative Commons — from OER, to Pedagogy, to Policy
