UNAWE Nigeria: Weekly Excursions and School Visits
26 July 2016

Every Wednesday UNAWE Nigeria organises school excursions to the Nigerian Space Agency. These excursions, which are targeted at elementary schools and high schools, include astronomy teaching and hands-on activities. UNAWE Nigeria involves 3 schools per week on average, reaching around 10-50 pupils per school. This resulted in 30 school excursions in just the last academic semester!

UNAWE Nigeria also visits schools on requests, which allow them to reach more pupils in one go. Sometimes, especially in rural areas, they have events for more schools at the same time, when rural schools act as hosts to other rural schools during Universe Awareness activities.

“The enthusiasm and excitement of the kids is priceless!” says Fagbemiro Olayinka of UNAWE Nigeria. “It is a hard job to teach these kids weekly, but their happy faces and smiles always keep us going. They are always eager to participate in the hands-on activities we do. Even though we have exceedingly limited resources to take care of these kids at every point, we just can’t turn any of them back!”
