Universe Awareness Win Your Own Telescope Competition
23 May 2016

Do you want to have a real telescope for your astronomy outreach and education activities? Universe Awareness, in collaboration with the Belgium initiative Sterren Schitteren voor Iedereen (stars are shining for everyone) is giving away 4 Bresser Refractor telescopes to the Universe Awareness network to celebrate UNAWE's 10 year anniversary.

The telescope is a refractor Bresser 80/900 and will be delivered with a simple home built mount. The equipment is complete with telescope tube, viewfinder, zenith prism, two accompanying eyepieces and the mount. This telescope can be used to observe the Moon, the planets of our Solar System and the most bright Messier objects (for example the Orion Nebula, globular clusters and binary stars).

How to participate

Send us 1 paragraph (max 300 words) describing how and where you would use the telescope to inspire underserved children with astronomy during World Space Week 2016 and beyond. Please also include how many children and/or teachers you aim to reach, and whether you can have technical support available to help you with the use and maintenance of the telescope. Send your submission to info@unawe.org before 31 July 2016.

Eligibility

  • Submission is open to Universe Awareness network members from any country

  • Submissions will be judged on creativity, impact, feasibility and sustainability of project. Please note: the telescopes are meant for educational and outreach activities, not for individual use.
